The DMK Rescue Spay/Neuter Fund is specifically set up to assist qualified shelters who have contracted with Lori Sies' Ferret Dream House Rescue to rehabilitate and rehome ferrets originating from the DMK rescue situation. This fund will be administered by the AFA with the intent to disperse funds to assist qualified shelters to bring the DMK ferrets to a condition that the AFA supports as an adoptable companion ferret.

The Mongo Memorial Distemper Titer Study Fund
The American Ferret Association highly recommends that all ferrets be properly vaccinated against canine distemper and rabies under the care of your veterinarian. With this in mind, due to the high incidence of reactions each year, we also believe it is necessary to do further research to determine if the possibility exists that we could be over-vaccinating our ferrets.

Dr. Heller, with support from the American Ferret Association is heading up a study to measure the titer levels in ferrets who have previously been vaccinated against canine distemper virus. Learn more...

Pamela Slack, DVM, Memorial Research Fund
The American Ferret Association, Inc. (AFA) started work on a grant program in 1999 to fill a void to specifically support research that would explicitly benefit the health and welfare of the domestic ferret Mustela [putorius] furo. In the same year, the AFA and the ferret community suffered a tragic loss when Pamela M. Slack, DVM was killed in a private airplane crash in May 1999. Dr. Slack was the conference chairperson of all three veterinary conferences that the AFA organized and hosted, and was an active participant in the AFA's Health Affairs committee and served as a ferret medical consultant to the AFA.
