Pamela Slack, DVM, Memorial Research Fund
The American Ferret Association, Inc. (AFA) started work on a grant program in 1999 to fill a void to specifically support research that would explicitly benefit the health and welfare of the domestic ferret Mustela [putorius] furo. In the same year, the AFA and the ferret community suffered a tragic loss when Pamela M. Slack, DVM was killed in a private airplane crash in May 1999. Dr. Slack was the conference chairperson of all three veterinary conferences that the AFA organized and hosted, and was an active participant in the AFA's Health Affairs committee and served as a ferret medical consultant to the AFA.

Ferret Shelter Rescue Fund Donation
The American Ferret Association has established the Shelter Rescue Fund to offer financial assistance towards the care of large ferret rescues, surrenders, confiscations, or a 501(c)3 organization that has a separate, permanent facility designed to include ferrets in their care. The Shelter Rescue Fund is specifically set up to assist qualified shelters who have taken in large numbers of ferrets (15 or more living ferrets). This fund will be administered by the AFA with the intent to disperse funds to assist qualified shelters to bring the rescued ferrets to a condition that the AFA supports as an adoptable companion ferret.
